Listen to Adventurer Chris Howard talking about his amazing 11,000 mile walk around the coast of Britain to raise funds for BBC Children in Need. The pandemic has hit our children hard and Chris felt particularly concerned for children who didn’t have the security of a caring family around them during these most difficult of times. He realised that for some children the Covid-19 has brought more than just the risk of sickness – it has broken up their families, taken away the support of their families and left them vulnerable to abuse and neglect. Chris has combined his thirst for adventure with his determination to help vulnerable to children in this epic walk during which he aims to raise over £40,000 for vulnerable children.

In Chris’ own words…

A lifetime of adventure

I’ve always been harder on myself about the small things than anyone I know, I’m not sure why. I‘ve spent my entire life trying to figure out who I am and what I am capable of never really adhering to convention. I didn’t deliberately try to be different, or an adventurer  I’m still not. I believe we’re all the same and I’m just an ordinary human but that in itself is extraordinary. It took me a very long time to build the confidence to realise that simple truth was enough.

I set out to see the world and understand it an my place in it with my own eyes and experiences. Travelling in; the jungles & rainforest of Southeast Asia among many of it‘s islands, Across India and up into Rajasthan, Punjab, Kashmir & the foothills of the Himalayas. The cultural lessons and humility I gained developed a deep sense of connection to our environment and people. I travelled in Russia & much of Europe with aim of seeing as many countries as possible before I was 30, I’m still not finished!

Having not always lived a particularly healthy and productive lifestyle I dedicated my whole existence to self improvement and physical achievement, kicking the bad habits and replacing them with exercise and short term goals. I am living proof that life is what you make it.

Listing my adventures would be too long because everyday is a new adventure in many ways but I suppose my biggest achievements so far include; rowing the Atlantic (fully unsupported), cycling nonstop Paris to Cambridge, 3 stages of the TdF (Tour de France) over 12 solid hours on an official programmed spin bike, a variety of running events including the Paris marathon the day before Notre Dame burnt down & having a family. Having a family being my biggest and best experience to date.

I’m currently walking the entire coastline of mainland Britain during the global COVID-19 pandemic.
