Little Red Riding Hood has a lot to answer for. Not only was she unable to tell the difference between an elderly human being and furry carnivore but she has damaged the reputation of the wolf for centuries. To set the record straight wolf attacks on human beings are exceptionally rare – you are more likely to be stabbed by an irate grandmother than eaten by a wolf. There are also very few verified instances of wolves disguising themselves as elderly relatives. Little Red Riding Hood made it all up.
Be careful what stories you tell your children.
When I spoke to Lovis Geier, she pointed out to me that my book, Sky Dance, was part of the genre of Ecofiction. That is fiction that has an underlying message about nature.
“Do you know of any other Ecofiction books?” Lovis asked.
I had think for a long time. The only book that came to mind was Gavin Maxwell’s book Ring of Bright Water.Sky Dance tells the of two hillwalkers who take on the establishment in an attempt to rewild the Highlands of Scotland.
Watch Lovis’ review.
A week later Lovis invited me on to her show to talk about Sky Dance.
