After years in Scouting, this is so true. The best memories the kids had were from the worst trips they had been on, and complained the most about at the time.
If you are not really miserable you’re just not enjoying yourself.
Last year I hiked the Bright Angel trail in the Grand Canyon and swore I would never do it again. This year I went back and backpacked the whole south side of the canyon, and swore not to do it again. I’m now thinking of going back and doing the rim-rim backpack.
Why do we do this to ourselves? Why are our happiest times our most miserable?
At least I admit my bagging is normally grim! And I don’t do selfies…
Haha! I guess it all falls into the modern ‘psychology’ of reframing your situation in a positive light… Great insight, thanks for making me chuckle 😀
